Piper was our scientist this week, and she did fantastic! She made a volcano out of clay and then made it erupt using baking soda, food coloring, and vinegar. I am of course taking the pictures of Piper, but this week I especially like looking everyone else's facial expressions. Way to go, Piper!

ROY G BIV
We wrapped up colors this week by adding a really cool color book to our science journal. We also mixed colors with paint in baggies for our science journal. I am excited about how our journals are turning out this year. They are going to be a great keepsake of our first grade year!
Go Cubs!
It's my favorite time of the year....Fall! And with Fall comes Football, another one of my favorites! Earlier this week the Brenham Cub Cheerleaders came to BES for a pep rally. The kids were pumped up and full of excitement after this fun-filled pep rally!
Each year I bring my pom poms from when I was a cheerleader and a real Brenham Cub football helmet to school and take pictures of my firsties for our Brenham Cub bulletin board. Every Monday we make a bar graph using the score of the football game from the previous Friday. It is always amazing to me that the kids remember the score and the opposing team's name. We have lots of fun with this and it's a great math lesson!
Here are a few pictures from the bulletin board. The girls got to pose with the pom poms, and the boys got to try on the helmet.
And here is Tegan trying on the helmet! So super, cute!
The Cubs are off to an awesome start, 4-0! Here's to a great rest of the season!
GO CUBS!!!!

Famous First Grade Scientist - Logan
Logan was our scientist last week, and he did a super, cool experiment! He dropped Mentos into Diet Coke, which made a Diet Coke geyser. If you haven't tried this at home, you must try it(outside, of course)!
Great Job, Logan! (Still trying to get his video to upload. Having some technical difficulties.)

Fun in First!
I just wanted to share with you some of the fun-filled learning moments we have had in the past couple of weeks.
The kids LOVE using our SMARTBOARD!
Last Friday we had fun doing math with Skittles. We sorted, made patterns, and graphed using Skittles! Lots of fun!
Have a great week!

Famous First Grade Scientist
Each week a student is chosen to be our "Scientist of the Week." They will select a science project to do for the class on Friday. The scientist gets to wear a lab coat and goggles while they perform their experiment. This is a great learning experience and the kids have so much fun with it. They LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this and look forward to it each week.
She did a super job on her experiment. Tegan filled the pink bowl with water and then sprinkled pepper on top. She then put her finger in the water to see what would happen and nothing happened. Next, Tegan dipped her finger into liquid dish soap and placed it into the pepper water. The pepper quickly reacted by moving to the sides of the bowl.
Take a look at Tegan's video.
